What's in a Name? Mount Baldy's History
For a long time, people called this mountain Barrier Mountain. This was because it was very close to Barrier Lake. But in 1984, the mountain was officially given its current name, Mount Baldy.
Mount Baldy and Its Past Visitors
During World War II, there was a camp nearby where people were staying. Sometimes, these people were allowed to climb Mount Baldy. They had to promise to come back safely after their climb. Today, a research center from the University of Calgary is located where that old camp used to be.
Exploring Mount Baldy: Routes and Peaks
Mount Baldy has different peaks, and some are easier to climb than others. The North peak is known for being an easy scramble. Scrambling is like hiking, but it involves using your hands a bit to climb over rocks. The other peaks are a bit harder, offering more of a challenge for experienced climbers.
