Mount Clague is a mountain located in the Kitimat Ranges of western British Columbia, Canada. It stands tall west of where the Wedeene River and Kitimat River meet. The mountain is also just northwest of the town of Kitimat.
The Story Behind Mount Clague's Name
Mount Clague received its name in 1951. It was named in connection with a nearby survey point. This survey point had been named in 1949, but its name was spelled incorrectly. The mountain's name was officially corrected in 1968.
The mountain is named after Herbert Naden Clague. He was a land surveyor in British Columbia. In 1910, Mr. Clague helped plan how the town of Kitimat would be divided. This plan showed where streets and building lots would go.
