Mount Claremont, once known as Graylands, is a suburb in Perth, Western Australia. It is located within the areas managed by the Town of Cambridge and the City of Nedlands.
In the 1950s, Graylands changed a lot. After World War II, many military and migrant facilities in the area were no longer needed. This led to big changes in the suburb.

Places to Visit in Mount Claremont
Mount Claremont is home to several important places. These include sports facilities, a hospital, and colleges.
Sports and Education Hubs
The suburb has the Perth Superdrome, which is a major sports venue. It also hosts the Western Australian Institute of Sport (WAIS). WAIS helps train many of Australia's top athletes.
You can also find Graylands Hospital here. This hospital provides mental health care. For students, there is John XXIII College and Wollaston College. The University of Western Australia also owns land in this area.
Mount Claremont's Past
Before becoming what it is today, Mount Claremont had other important institutions.
Historical Institutions
It was once the site of the former Swanbourne Hospital. There was also the Graylands Teachers College, which operated from 1955 to 1979. This college trained many teachers. From 1952 to 1987, the area also had the Graylands Migrant Hostel. This hostel provided a place for new migrants to stay.

Mount Claremont has different types of residential areas. These are divided into four main estates.
Residential Estates Explained
- Zamia Gardens is the newest area. It is still being built, with new homes appearing all the time.
- St Johns Wood is a newer estate. It is next to John XXIII College and Graylands Hospital. This area has many larger blocks of land. Some homes even have views of the city.
- St Peters Square is a more densely built area. It features many townhouses. These homes are often built around a central park.
- Old Mount Claremont is the original part of the suburb. Most homes here were built in the 1940s and 1950s. Some properties in this area are right next to the Cottesloe Golf Course.
Many people in Mount Claremont have gone to university or other higher education. About 23.4% of residents have a degree. This is higher than the average for Perth, which is 13.5%.
Getting Around Mount Claremont
The southeast part of Mount Claremont is on a railway line. This line connects Karrakatta and Loch Street. Mount Claremont also has bus services provided by Transperth.
