Mount Goethe got its name from a very famous person: Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. He was a brilliant German writer, poet, and scientist who lived a long time ago. One of his most well-known works is a play called Faust. It's pretty cool that a huge mountain was named after such an important figure in literature!
Who First Climbed Mount Goethe?
The very first time someone successfully climbed to the top of Mount Goethe was on July 6, 1933. Two adventurous climbers, David Brower and George Rockwood, were the first to reach its summit.
