Mount Hosmer is a cool mountain located in the Canadian Rockies! You can find it in British Columbia, Canada. This mountain is named after the nearby community of Hosmer. Its most famous feature is a set of cliffs that face south. You can easily see these cliffs from Fernie, a town further down the Elk Valley.

What makes Mount Hosmer really unique is that it's like an "upside-down mountain." This means the oldest rock layers are actually found near the top of the mountain. The younger rock formations are located closer to the bottom. It's a fascinating geological puzzle!

The Mystery of the Ghost Rider

One of the most famous things about Mount Hosmer is the "Ghost Rider." This is a special shadow that appears on the central southern cliff face of the mountain. It's easiest to see during summer evenings. The shadow looks a lot like a person riding a horse, with another person following on foot.

This amazing shadow has become a big part of local stories and legends. It's a symbol for the community of Fernie. In fact, the local hockey team, the Fernie Ghostriders, got their name from this very shadow! Even a book called Ghost Rider, written by musician Neil Peart, was inspired by seeing this unique shadow.
