This means it is a group of homes and businesses without a formal local government. Mt. Lookout is located about 10 miles (16 km) south of Summersville.

Community Life
Mt. Lookout has one elementary school, Mt. Lookout Elementary. It also has a Head Start program for young children.
For many years, there was a small general store called Kountry Mart. It sold things like drinks, bread, and snacks. Before that, a store named the Poke ‘N Tote served the area. Around 2016, the Kountry Mart building was changed into apartments. A new Family Dollar store was built across the street.
The community is protected by the Wilderness Volunteer Fire Department. There is one Baptist church, called Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church. There is also a Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. You can find a few vehicle mechanics in the community too.
Location and Surroundings
Mt. Lookout is divided in half by a major road called US Route 19. The school, fire department, and the Kingdom Hall are on the eastern side of this highway. The Baptist church, Post Office, and Family Dollar are on the western side.
The southern part of the community is next to the Meadow River. The Summersville Lake recreational area is just north of Mt. Lookout. This area is great for outdoor activities.
