How Was Mount Minto Named?

Mount Minto was named after an important person in Canadian history. This person was Gilbert Elliot-Murray-Kynynmound, 4th Earl of Minto. He served as the Governor General of Canada from 1898 to 1904. A Governor General is the representative of the Canadian monarch, acting as the country's head of state. It's a very important role in Canada's government.

Lord Minto's name was also given to other places in British Columbia. These include Minto City, British Columbia, which was a historic town, and the Minto Mine. There is even a short street in the city of Vancouver named after him.
