Why is it Called Mount Murray?

Mount Murray was named to honor a person named N.F. Murray. He was an important figure in the early 1900s.

Early Surveys and Exploration

In 1915, N.F. Murray worked with G.V. Copley. They were part of the British Columbia Forest Service. Their job was to explore the area around the mountain. They created the first detailed maps and looked for valuable timber. This work helped people understand the natural resources of the region.

A Hero's Legacy

N.F. Murray later joined the Canadian Army in 1916. He served during World War I. Sadly, he was killed in 1917 during a very important battle called the Battle of Vimy Ridge. Naming the mountain after him helps remember his contributions and sacrifice.
