Mount Pleasant is a hilly suburb located in the city of Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia. It sits on the northern side of Mount Keira and stretches towards the Illawarra escarpment. This area is mostly made up of homes where people live.
Mount Pleasant is home to the beautiful Rhododendron Park, which you can find on Parrish Avenue. The suburb also has a small local school called Pleasant Heights Public School. About 180 students attend this school. One interesting fact about Mount Pleasant is Brokers Road, which is known for being one of the steepest roads in New South Wales!
History of Mount Pleasant
The land in the Mount Pleasant area was once owned by a man named John Dingwall. He decided to name this place after another property he owned.
A small village began to grow on the mountainside after the Mount Pleasant mine opened in 1861. Today, Mount Pleasant is a calm and quiet suburb.
Sporting Events
Mount Pleasant played an important role in the 2022 World Championships for cycling, which took place in Wollongong. During the race, cyclists had to climb Mount Pleasant several times as part of a 17-kilometer local loop. It was a challenging part of the course!
