Mount Prindle is a cool mountain in Alaska, USA. It is made mostly of a type of rock called granite. This mountain is found in a hilly area known as the Yukon–Tanana Uplands. It is about 45 miles (72 km) north-northeast of a city called Fairbanks, Alaska.

Mount Prindle looks different from many other mountains nearby. It has special shapes on its land that were carved by huge sheets of ice called glaciers long ago. This makes it a unique place to study how glaciers change the land.

About Mount Prindle

Mount Prindle is a big, rocky mountain. It stands tall in the Yukon–Koyukuk Census Area of Alaska. The mountain's highest point is 5,286 feet (1,611 meters) above sea level.

How Mount Prindle Formed

The main part of Mount Prindle is made of huge blobs of molten rock. These blobs are called plutons. They formed deep underground a very long time ago. This happened during the Late Cretaceous or early Tertiary periods.

These hot, liquid rocks pushed their way into older rocks. These older rocks were already there from the Precambrian to the Paleozoic eras. Over millions of years, the softer rocks around the granite wore away. This left the hard granite of Mount Prindle standing tall.

Mining and Minerals

Mount Prindle is located in an area known as the Circle Mining District. For many years, people have been looking for valuable minerals here. Many creeks around the mountain have been, or still are, mined for placer gold. Placer gold is gold found in riverbeds or gravel.

People have also searched for other minerals like tin. They have also looked for rare earth minerals. These are special elements used in many modern technologies.

Fun Activities

Mount Prindle is a great place for outdoor adventures. There are old mine roads and hiking trails that let you explore the mountain. These paths make it easier to reach different parts of the area.

For rock climbers, there is a very exciting challenge. On the eastern side of the mountain, there is a granite wall that is about 900 feet (274 meters) tall. This huge rock face is a popular spot for climbers.

Who is Mount Prindle Named After?

The mountain is named after a man named Louis Marcus Prindle. He was a geologist who worked for the U.S. Geological Survey. Geologists are scientists who study rocks and the Earth.

Louis Prindle worked in Alaska from 1902 to 1911. He explored and studied the areas around Fairbanks, Circle, and Fortymile. Naming the mountain after him honors his important work in understanding Alaska's geology.
