Discovering Mount Titiroa
Geiger's Garden and Unique Rocks
The very top of Mt Titiroa has a special area called Geiger's Garden. Here, you can find many rocks with unusual shapes. These shapes are made by a natural process called exfoliation. This is when layers of rock peel away, like an onion.
These cool rock formations are very popular. Many photographers come to take pictures of them. Mountaineers also enjoy exploring this unique landscape.
A TV Show Adventure
In the 1990s, a TV show called "Havoc and Newsboy" made a funny episode about Mt Titiroa. It was a spoof episode, which means it was a fake documentary. In the show, they pretended to look for a lost civilization on the mountain.
They even sat on a large rock that looked like a giant stone turtle! After this TV show aired, the New Zealand Department of Conservation made an important announcement. They decided that no commercial guides would be allowed to take people into the Mt Titiroa area. This helps protect the mountain's special environment.
