Mount Vreeland is a significant landmark. It is the highest point of the Monkman Icefield. This icefield is a large area covered by ice and snow. The mountain sits on a ridge. This ridge separates two important glaciers. To the northwest is the Vreeland Glacier. To the south is the Parsnip Glacier. The Parsnip Glacier is also the starting point for the Parsnip River.

How Mount Vreeland Got Its Name

Mount Vreeland received its name in 1915. A surveyor named George V. Copley gave it this name. He named it after Frederick K. Vreeland from New York. Frederick Vreeland was an explorer. He spent three years exploring the area. His work focused on the McGregor River and the upper parts of the Parsnip River. This exploration happened in 1912, 1913, and 1915. The mountain's name is not connected to the Dutch village of Vreeland.
