Mount Whittier is a beautiful mountain located in Carroll County, New Hampshire. It is part of the northern Ossipee Mountains, a unique circular mountain range. This peak is named after a famous American poet, John Greenleaf Whittier.
It's important not to confuse Mount Whittier with another nearby peak, Nickerson Mountain. Nickerson Mountain was actually called Mount Whittier a long time ago!

Where is Mount Whittier Located?
Mount Whittier stands proudly in the state of New Hampshire, in the northeastern part of the United States. Specifically, you can find it near the town of Tamworth. It's part of the Ossipee Mountains, which are known for their interesting shape.

The Ossipee Mountains are special because they form a nearly perfect circle. Scientists believe this shape was created by an ancient volcano that collapsed. Mount Whittier is one of the many peaks that make up this unique mountain range.
History and Past Activities
While Mount Whittier is a natural landmark, it also has a bit of human history connected to it. There are no hiking trails on the mountain today. However, things were different in the past.
The Civilian Conservation Corps
Many years ago, a group called the CCC worked on Mount Whittier. The CCC was a program in the United States during the 1930s. It helped young men find jobs during a tough economic time. These workers built many things, including parks and trails. On Mount Whittier, they built an alpine ski trail on the northern side. This trail was used for skiing down the mountain. Today, this ski trail is no longer in use.
