Geography of Mount Zion
Mount Zion is located in the southeastern part of Macon County. It is near the city of Decatur, which is the county seat. The village of Long Creek is to its north.
Illinois Route 121 goes through Mount Zion. This road leads northwest about 8 miles (13 km) to Decatur. It also goes southeast about 19 miles (31 km) to Sullivan.
The village covers about 4.28 square miles (11.1 km²). Most of this area is land, with only a tiny bit of water. Finley Creek and Big Creek flow through the village. These creeks are part of the Sangamon River system.
