Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Mountain City Fiddlers Convention was a special music event held in May 1925. It took place in Mountain City, Tennessee, a town in East Tennessee. This gathering brought together many talented musicians. They played Appalachian music, which is a traditional style from the Appalachian Mountains.

Many of these musicians were pioneers of bluegrass music and country music. Famous names like G. B. Grayson, Charlie Bowman, and Al Hopkins were there. The convention was a big deal for the music of East Tennessee. It helped shape what we now know as modern country music. Other important events, like the Bristol sessions in 1927 and the Johnson City sessions in 1928 and 1929, also helped launch this music style.

A musician named Dudley Vance from Bluff City, Tennessee won first prize. He played a song called "Twinkle Little Star." G. B. Grayson, who was from Johnson County, Tennessee, also won a prize. He was recognized for his performance of the folk song "Cumberland Gap."
