Products Hazelnuts

Mountain Hazelnuts (or MH for short) is a special kind of company that helps people and the environment. It works with over 12,000 farming families and groups in the beautiful country of Bhutan. Together, they are planting 10 million hazelnut trees across the mountains!

MH is the biggest private employer in Bhutan. This means they provide the most jobs outside of the government. Their goal is to create good things for everyone involved. This includes the mountain communities, the company's owners, and nature itself.

In 2010, a magazine called Forbes wrote about Mountain Hazelnuts. They said it was the first big foreign investment ever made in Bhutan. This was a huge step for the country.

The company gives young hazelnut trees to farmers in rural areas. They also provide tools and expert advice. Once the trees grow and produce nuts, Mountain Hazelnuts buys the hazelnuts from these farmers. Then, they process the nuts to sell them to markets around the world.

Who Helps Mountain Hazelnuts?

Mountain Hazelnuts works with many important groups to make its project a success. These partners help by providing money and support. This allows the company to keep planting trees and helping farmers.

Important Financial Partners

In 2015, three big organizations joined to help Mountain Hazelnuts. These were the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and The Global Agriculture and Food Security Program (GAFSP). They offered a special financial package. This package combined different types of funding to support the project.

Later, in 2018, another group called Ceniarth provided US$3 million in funding. This money helped Mountain Hazelnuts continue its important work.

In 2019, Mountain Hazelnuts received a large agreement for US$9 million. This came from the Land Degradation Neutrality Fund (LDN). This fund is connected to the United Nations. It is managed by companies called Mirova and Natixis. This long-term funding helps MH keep its project going for many years.
