Mountain Village first appeared in the U.S. Census in 1920. Back then, it was just called "Mountain." It officially became "Mountain Village" when it was incorporated as a city in 1967.
In 2000, there were 755 people living in the city. Most of the people (over 90%) were Native American. About 6% were White. A small number were from two or more racial backgrounds.
Many households in Mountain Village had children under 18 living with them. The average household had more than four people. This shows that families in Mountain Village tend to be larger.
The median age of people in the city was 23 years old. This means that half the population was younger than 23, and half was older. A large part of the population (over 42%) was under 18 years old.
Education in Mountain Village
Students from kindergarten to 12th grade go to Mountain Village School. This school is run by the Lower Yukon School District. The main office for this school district is also located in Mountain Village.
