About the Mountain Bulbul
A scientist named Thomas Horsfield first described this bird in 1840. He first placed it in a group (genus) called Hypsipetes. But now, scientists believe it is more closely related to the Sunda bulbul. This means it belongs in the Ixos group.
Other Names for the Bird
The Mountain Bulbul has a few other names. Some people call it the Green-winged Bulbul. Other names include McClelland's Bulbul or Rufous-bellied Bulbul. Sometimes, the name 'Mountain Bulbul' is also used for a different bird, the Cameroon greenbul.
Different Types of Mountain Bulbuls
Scientists have found nine different types, or subspecies, of the Mountain Bulbul. These different types live in various parts of Asia. For example, one type lives in the Himalayas. Others are found in places like Myanmar, China, Thailand, and Vietnam. Each type has slight differences, but they are all Mountain Bulbuls.
Where They Live
The Mountain Bulbul lives across a wide area. You can find it from the Indian subcontinent and southern China. Its home also stretches through Indochina to the Malay Peninsula.
Their Natural Home
These birds like to live in forests. They prefer broadleaved evergreen forests. These are forests where trees keep their leaves all year round. They usually live in areas that are high up. You can find them between 800 meters and 2,590 meters above sea level.
