Moussa Faki Mahamat (born 21 June 1960) is a politician and diplomat from the country of Chad. He has been the elected Chairperson of the African Union Commission since March 14, 2017. This is a very important role in Africa.
Before this, he served as the Prime Minister of Chad from 2003 to 2005. He was also the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Chad from 2008 to 2017. Faki is a member of the ruling Patriotic Salvation Movement (MPS) political party. He belongs to the Zaghawa ethnic group. This is the same group as the former President of Chad, Idriss Déby.
On February 6, 2021, Moussa Faki was chosen again to be the Chairperson of the African Union Commission. He will serve another four-year term until 2024.

Early Life and Education
Moussa Faki was born in a town called Biltine in eastern Chad. He later went to university in Brazzaville. This city is in the Republic of the Congo. At university, he studied law.
Political Career in Chad
Faki had to leave Chad when Hissein Habré became president on June 7, 1982. He joined a group called the Democratic Revolutionary Council. He did not return to Chad until June 7, 1991. This was after Idriss Déby took power.
After returning, he worked as a director-general for two government ministries. From 1996 to 1999, he was the Director-General of the National Sugar Company (SONASUT).
Working with President Déby
From March 1999 to July 2002, Faki worked as the Director of the Cabinet for President Déby. He also managed Déby's election campaign in May 2001.
In June 2002, Faki became the Minister of Public Works and Transport. A year later, on June 24, 2003, President Déby appointed him as the Prime Minister. He replaced Haroun Kabadi. Faki resigned from this role in February 2005.
Minister of Foreign Affairs
In January 2007, Faki was named a member of the Economic, Social and Cultural Council. He was then elected as the President of this Council in February 2007.
On April 23, 2008, he was appointed as the Minister of Foreign Affairs. He held this important position until February 5, 2017. Hissein Brahim Taha took over this role after him.
Leading the African Union
Moussa Faki took office as the Chairperson of the African Union Commission on March 14, 2017. The African Union is a group of 55 countries in Africa. They work together for peace, development, and cooperation across the continent. As Chairperson, Faki leads the main office of the African Union. He helps guide its work and goals.
