Mozambique Channel facts for kids
The Mozambique Channel is a large part of the Indian Ocean. It is located between the country of Mozambique on the west and the big island of Madagascar on the east. To its north is the Somali Sea. This channel is very wide, about 460 kilometers (286 miles) at its narrowest point.
The channel is also very deep. In some areas, it reaches about 3,292 meters (10,800 feet) down. During World War II, an important event called the Battle of Madagascar took place here.
