Mud Lake is a small city in Jefferson County, Idaho, in the United States. It is part of the Idaho Falls, Idaho metropolitan area. In 2010, about 358 people lived there. By 2019, the population had grown to around 419 people.
Mud Lake is also known for a very large lake nearby. This lake covers over 3,000 acres!
History of Mud Lake
The area around Mud Lake has a unique history. In 1919, settlers who were members of the Latter-day Saint Church formed a local group, called a branch, in Mud Lake.
Mud Lake gained national attention in 1981. This was because of a huge number of jackrabbits that appeared in the area.
On August 21, 2017, Mud Lake was a special place. It was directly in the path of a total solar eclipse. This meant people there could see the sun completely covered by the moon.
