Muddy Creek is a cool waterway in north central Colorado, United States. It's about 60.5 miles (97.4 km) long. This creek is a "tributary," which means it's a smaller river or stream that flows into a larger one. Muddy Creek flows into the mighty Colorado River.

Where Muddy Creek Begins and Ends

Muddy Creek starts in the northwestern part of Grand County, Colorado. Its journey begins high up in the Routt National Forest. This area is west of a place called Rabbit Ears Pass. It's also near the continental divide, which is like a big ridge where water on one side flows to the Pacific Ocean and water on the other side flows to the Atlantic Ocean.

From its start, Muddy Creek flows in different directions. It goes south, then east, and finally southwest. Its adventure ends when it joins the Colorado River. This meeting point is close to the town of Kremmling, Colorado.

Wolford Mountain Reservoir: A Special Place

In 1996, something important happened to Muddy Creek. A dam was built across it. This dam created a large body of water called the Wolford Mountain Reservoir.

The reservoir is now a big part of the Wolford Mountain Recreation Area. This means people can visit the area for fun activities. The reservoir helps store water and provides a great spot for outdoor adventures.
