History of Kremmling
The town of Kremmling began with a general store. This store was run by a man named Rudolph "Kare" Kremmling. It was built on the north side of Muddy Creek. In 1881, two brothers, Aaron and John Kinsey, turned part of their ranch into a town. They called it Kinsey City.
Kare Kremmling moved his store to this new spot. Soon, people started calling the whole area Kremmling. The first post office was named Kinsey City and operated from 1881 to 1885. Kare Kremmling was the first postmaster. The name Kremmling became official in 1895.
When the Moffat railroad, the Denver, Northwestern & Pacific Railway, arrived in July 1906, Kremmling became a key shipping center for the county. The town was officially incorporated on May 14, 1904. In the 1900s, ranching became the main business in the valley around Kremmling. In 1906, Kasper Schuler built the town's first brick building. It housed a bottling works and a boarding house. Later, in 1933, this building became the Hotel Eastin.
Kremmling was also featured in a famous photo story. It was part of W. Eugene Smith's "Country Doctor" in LIFE magazine in 1948.
