Muhamed Bešić (born 10 September 1992) is a professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder. He currently plays for Serbian SuperLiga club Spartak Subotica. Even though he was born in Germany, he played for the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team.
Bešić began his football journey at Hamburger SV, mostly playing for their reserve team. Later, he joined Ferencváros in 2012. Two years after that, he moved to Everton in England. While at Everton, he was loaned to Middlesbrough in 2018 and Sheffield United in 2019. He returned to Ferencváros in 2021 before signing with Spartak Subotica in 2025.
Muhamed Bešić also played for the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team. He made his first appearance for the senior team in 2010. He played in over 40 international matches until 2022. He proudly represented his country at their first big tournament, the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Club Career Highlights
Starting at Hamburger SV
Muhamed Bešić started playing football at local clubs when he was young. In 2009, he joined the youth academy of Hamburger SV. He signed his first professional contract with the team in November 2010. At just 18 years old, he made his first professional game against Borussia Dortmund on 12 November.
Time with Ferencváros
In August 2012, Bešić moved to Ferencváros, a Hungarian club, on a one-year deal. He played his first official game for them on 14 September against Haladás. On 5 May 2013, he scored his first goal as a professional player in a win against Paks. He later extended his contract with the club until June 2016.
Playing for Everton
In July 2014, Bešić joined the English team Everton. He made his first game for Everton on 30 August against Chelsea. In February 2016, he signed a new five-year contract with the club.
In August 2016, he had a serious knee injury. It was an anterior cruciate ligament tear, which meant he couldn't play for at least six months. He worked hard and returned to the field on 10 April 2017.
Later, he was loaned to Middlesbrough in February 2018 for the rest of that season. His loan was then extended for another year in August. In August 2019, he was loaned again, this time to Sheffield United for a season.
Back to Ferencváros
In September 2021, Bešić went back to Ferencváros on a three-year contract. He played his first game since returning on 22 September against Fehérvár. He helped the club win the league championship on 24 April 2022, which was his first trophy since coming back. On 29 April, he scored his first goal for Ferencváros after his return in a game against Paks.
On 13 November, Bešić played his 100th match for Ferencváros against Honvéd. In February 2023, he suffered another knee injury, which kept him out for about six months. He returned to play on 16 September and even scored a goal in that game.

International Career for Bosnia and Herzegovina

Muhamed Bešić played for the Bosnia and Herzegovina under-21 team for several years. In November 2010, he was called up to the senior national team for the first time. He made his debut in a friendly game against Slovakia on 17 November.
In June 2014, Bešić was chosen to be part of Bosnia and Herzegovina's team for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. This was a very special moment as it was the country's first time playing in a major football competition. He played his first World Cup match against Argentina on 15 June.
Playing Style
Throughout his career, Bešić has played in different positions. He has been a right-back and a centre-back. However, he says his favorite and most natural position is defensive midfielder.
His former manager at Everton, Roberto Martínez, described him as a "very complete footballer." He said Bešić was strong and aggressive, but also a skilled player with the ball.
Personal Life
Muhamed Bešić has three children with his girlfriend, Jessica. They have two daughters and one son. He is a practicing Muslim. He has many tattoos, including the word Bosanac (meaning Bosnian) and the names of his parents and brother.
