Muharrem İnce (born 4 May 1964) is a Turkish physics teacher, school principal, and politician. He is the founder and current leader of the Homeland Party. He has led the party since May 2021.
Before starting his own party, İnce was a member of the Republican People's Party (CHP). He served as a Member of Parliament for Yalova, his hometown, for four terms. He was also a deputy leader for the CHP in parliament from June 2010 to August 2014.
İnce ran for president of Turkey twice. In the 2018 Turkish presidential election, he was the candidate for the CHP. He received over 30 percent of the votes, coming in second place. The winner was Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. In the 2023 Turkish presidential election, İnce ran again as an independent candidate. However, he decided to stop his campaign before the election day.

About Muharrem İnce
Early Life and Education
Muharrem İnce was born in a village called Elmalık, in the Yalova area of Turkey. His parents are Şerif and Zekiye İnce. His grandparents on his father's side came from Drama in Greece. His grandparents on his mother's side came from Rize, a city on the Black Sea coast of Turkey.
He studied at Balıkesir University. He graduated from the Necatibey Faculty of Education, where he focused on Physics and Chemistry. After finishing university, he worked as a physics teacher and later became a school principal. He also worked as the Head of Press for a football club called Yalovaspor. İnce was also chosen to be the president of the Atatürkist Thought Association. This group supports the ideas of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who founded modern Turkey. He is married to Ülkü İnce, and they have one son named Salih Arda.
His Political Journey

Muharrem İnce became well-known in Turkish politics for speaking out strongly. Since 2002, he has been a prominent voice against the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), led by Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Many of his speeches were shared widely online.
In June 2010, İnce was elected as a deputy leader for the CHP's group in parliament. He was re-elected to this role in 2011 and 2013. He resigned from this position in August 2014.
In March 2014, local elections were held in Turkey. In Yalova, İnce's party, the CHP, won by a small margin. However, the election results in Yalova were challenged. İnce played a key role in the process, and the CHP candidate, Vefa Salman, won the second election as well.
In August 2014, İnce announced he wanted to become the leader of the CHP. However, he did not win the election for party leadership in September 2014. He tried again to become the party leader in February 2018 but was unsuccessful. He received 447 votes, while the current leader, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, received 790 votes.
While he was a member of the CHP, he was known for representing the nationalist side of the party.
Presidential Campaigns
On May 3, 2018, it was announced that Muharrem İnce would be the presidential candidate for the Republican People's Party (CHP). The next day, the CHP leader, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, officially announced the party's support for İnce. The CHP then started preparing for the election campaign.
İnce's campaign used the slogan “Türkiye’ye güvence Muharrem İnce”, which means "Muharrem İnce, an assurance to Turkey." His first election rally was held in his hometown of Yalova on May 5.
In the first round of the presidential election, President Erdoğan won with 52.6% of the votes. İnce received 30.64% of the votes.
After another CHP meeting, there were rumors that İnce would start a new political party. On September 4, 2020, he launched his political group called the Homeland Movement. At this time, he was still a member of the Republican People's Party. İnce officially resigned from the Republican People's Party on January 31, 2021.
In February 2023, İnce announced that his new party was talking about forming an electoral alliance with other parties. These included the Democratic Left Party, the Victory Party, True Party, and the Justice Party. However, on March 6, 2023, İnce left these alliance talks.
He decided to withdraw from the presidential race on May 11, 2023.
