Muharrem İnce (born May 4, 1964) is a Turkish politician. He was a physics teacher and school principal before entering politics. He also worked as a sports executive.
He is currently a member of the CHP. He founded the Homeland Party in May 2021 and led it until July 2025. Before that, he was a Member of Parliament (MP) for Yalova, his hometown, for four terms. He also served as the CHP's deputy leader in parliament from June 2010 to August 2014.
İnce ran for the leadership of the CHP twice. Both times he ran against Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu. He first tried in September 2014 and again in February 2018.
He was the CHP's candidate for president in the 2018 Turkish presidential election. He received over 30 percent of the votes, coming in second. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan won that election with 53 percent. In 2023, İnce ran for president again as an independent candidate. However, he stopped his campaign before the election day.

About Muharrem İnce
Muharrem İnce was born in the village of Elmalık. This village is in the Yalova area of Turkey. His parents are Şerif and Zekiye İnce. His grandparents on his father's side came from Drama in Greek Macedonia. His grandparents on his mother's side came from Rize, a city on the Black Sea coast.
Education and Early Career
İnce studied at Balıkesir University. He graduated from the Physics-Chemistry department. After finishing university, he worked as a physics teacher. He also became a school principal. Later, he worked as the Head of Press for the football club Yalovaspor. He was also chosen to be the president of the Atatürkist Thought Association. This group supports the ideas of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who founded modern Turkey.

Muharrem İnce is married to Ülkü İnce. They have one son together, named Salih Arda.
Muharrem İnce's Political Journey

Muharrem İnce became well-known in Turkish politics. He was a strong voice for the main opposition party, the CHP. He often spoke out against the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP). His speeches were very popular and were shared widely online.
Becoming a Parliamentary Leader
In 2010, after Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu became the CHP party leader, İnce ran for a leadership role in parliament. He was elected with 58 votes. He was re-elected in 2011 and 2013. He resigned from this position in August 2014. Levent Gök took his place.
Local Elections in Yalova
In March 2014, Turkey held local elections. In İnce's hometown of Yalova, his party, the CHP, won by a small margin. However, the results in Yalova were challenged. İnce played a very important part in the process that followed. The CHP's candidate, Vefa Salman, won the second election held in Yalova as well.
Running for Party Leadership
On August 18, 2014, İnce announced he wanted to become the leader of the CHP. However, he did not win the election at the party meeting in September 2014.
He tried again to become the party leader in February 2018. He ran against Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu once more. He received 447 votes from the party members, but Kılıçdaroğlu received 790 votes and remained the leader. While he was a member of the CHP, he was seen as part of the nationalist group within the party.
Presidential Campaigns
On May 3, 2018, it was announced that Muharrem İnce would be the presidential candidate for the Republican People's Party (CHP). The next day, party leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu officially supported İnce's candidacy. The CHP then started preparing for the election campaign. İnce's campaign used the slogan "Muharrem İnce, an assurance to Turkey." His first election rally was in his hometown of Yalova on May 5.
In the first round of the presidential election, President Erdoğan won with 52.6% of the votes. İnce received 30.64% of the votes.
Founding the Homeland Party
After the 37th CHP Ordinary Convention, there were rumors that İnce would start a new political party. On September 4, 2020, he started his own political group called the Memleket Movement. He was still a member of the Republican People's Party at this time. İnce officially announced his resignation from the Republican People's Party on January 31, 2021. He formally left the party on February 8, 2021.
In February 2023, İnce announced that his party was talking about forming an electoral alliance with other parties. These included the Democratic Left Party, the Memleket Party, True Party, and the Justice Party. This was for the 2023 Turkish general election. However, on March 6, 2023, İnce left these alliance talks.
He decided to withdraw from the presidential race on May 11, 2023.
