Mu'in Tawfiq Bseiso (born 1926 – died 1984) was a famous Palestinian poet. He spent much of his life living in Egypt. He was known for his strong poems that often spoke about his homeland, Palestine.

Early Life and Education

Mu'in Bseiso finished his primary and secondary schooling in Gaza in 1948. He began sharing his writings when he was quite young. His first poems were published in a magazine called Al-Hurriya (meaning Liberty) in 1946. This magazine was based in Jaffa.

In 1948, he moved to Cairo, Egypt, to study at the American University. He graduated in 1952. His final project was about how spoken words are used in radio and TV compared to printed newspapers.

His Published Works

Mu'in Bseiso published his first book of poems, Al-Ma'raka (meaning The Battle), on January 27, 1952. He wrote several other important poetry collections. These included Palestine in the Heart (published in 1964) and Trees Die Standing (published in 1966).

He faced difficult times and was held in Egyptian jails in Gaza twice. The first time was from 1955 to 1957, and the second time was from 1959 to 1963. During one of these times, he met Sahbaa al-Barbari, who later became his wife. She was one of the first women in Gaza to support the idea of a society where everyone is equal.

Mu'in Bseiso passed away in London in 1984 due to heart problems.

Amazing Achievements

Mu'in Bseiso's poems were so powerful that they were translated into many different languages. People around the world could read his work in English, French, German, Russian, Azeri, Uzbek, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Vietnamese, and Persian.

He received the Afro-Asian Lotus Prize for Literature, which is a special award for writers. He also served as the vice Editor in Chief for Lotus magazine. This magazine was published by the Afro-Asian Writers' Association. Additionally, he was honored with the Palestinian Dir' Al-Thawra (meaning Revolution Shield).
