Mulas is a small community, also called a barrio, located in the town of Patillas, Puerto Rico. In 2010, about 439 people lived there. It's a quiet place within the beautiful island of Puerto Rico.
A Look Back: Mulas's History
Puerto Rico used to be a territory of Spain. After the Spanish–American War in 1898, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This happened because of a peace agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898. From then on, Puerto Rico became a special kind of U.S. territory.
In 1899, the U.S. government counted everyone living in Puerto Rico. They found that 823 people lived in Mulas barrio at that time. Over the years, the number of people living in Mulas has changed. You can see how the population has grown and shrunk in the table below.
