Multia is a small town, also called a municipality, in Finland. It's found in the Central Finland area. Multia has a population of about 1,430 people as of 31 December 2023.

The town covers an area of about 765.63 square kilometres (295.61 sq mi). A part of this area, 32.37 km2 (12.50 sq mi), is covered by water. This means there are many lakes and rivers around. The population density is about 1.95 inhabitants per square kilometre (5.1/sq mi).

Multia is a place where people mainly speak Finnish. In the past, it was sometimes called "Muldia" in Swedish papers. But today, everyone calls it "Multia" in Swedish too.

Geography of Multia

Multia is surrounded by several other towns. Its neighbors are Keuruu, Petäjävesi, Saarijärvi, Uurainen, and Ähtäri. The biggest city nearby is Jyväskylä, which is about 60 kilometres (37 mi) away. Jyväskylä is the capital city of the Central Finland region.

Lakes and Highest Point

There are many lakes in Multia, about 146 in total! The largest lakes are Sinervä, Tarhapäänjärvi, and Sahrajärvi-Pienvesi. These lakes are great for enjoying nature.

Multia is also home to the highest point in the Central Finland region. This spot is called Kiiskilänmäki. It reaches a height of about 269 metres (883 ft) above sea level.

If you visit Multia in the summer, be ready for some rain! From June to August, Multia gets the most rainfall in all of Finland. On average, it receives about 237.3 millimeters (9.3 inches) of rain during these months.
