Munger, Missouri facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Munger is a small place located in the northeastern part of Reynolds County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. It's known as an "unincorporated community." This means it doesn't have its own local government, like a city or town would. Instead, it's managed by the larger county it's in.

Munger is found near Missouri Route N. It's about one-third of a mile south of the line that separates Reynolds County from Iron County. If you're looking for landmarks, Munger is about 8.5 miles west of the town of Ironton. It's also around 4.5 miles northeast of Johnson's Shut-Ins State Park, a popular natural area. The East Fork of the Black River flows right past this community.

What's the Story of Munger?

Munger has a bit of history! Long ago, it was sometimes called "Mungers Mill." This suggests there might have been a mill there in the past.

A post office was opened in Munger in 1884. This was an important place where people could send and receive letters and packages. The post office served the community for many years, finally closing down in 1932. The community itself was named after a local family, the Munger family, who lived in the area.
