Ironton is a city in Missouri, United States. It is the main town, also called the county seat, of Iron County, Missouri. In 2020, about 1,475 people lived there.

History of Ironton
Ironton became the county seat in 1857. This happened soon after Iron County was formed. The city and county both got their names from the large amounts of iron ore found nearby. A post office has been open in Ironton since 1858.
In August 1861, a famous general named Ulysses S. Grant visited the area. He led a group of four army regiments. He wrote to his wife, saying the area was "one of the most delightful places I have ever been in."
