The Municipal District of Opportunity No. 17 is a large area in central northern Alberta, Canada. It is a type of local government area, similar to a county or rural district. Its main office is located in the small community of Wabasca. This district is found north of the town of Athabasca.

How the District Was Formed
The Municipal District of Opportunity No. 17 was officially created on August 1, 1995. Before this date, it was known by a different name: Improvement District No. 17 East (North).
