A Look Back: History of the Museum
The Musée Grévin Montreal first opened its doors on April 17, 2013. It was a big deal because it was the very first museum opened by its parent company, Musée Grévin, outside of France. The original Musée Grévin is in Paris and is very famous!
The Montreal museum was designed to be similar to the one in Paris. It featured wax figures of important people from Canadian and Québécois history and culture. You could also find international stars there.
The building where the museum was located used to be an old movie theater. It was known as "Famous Players Centre Eaton 6."
Sadly, the Musée Grévin Montreal closed its doors for good on September 16, 2021.
Who Could You Meet? Famous Wax Figures
The Musée Grévin Montreal was home to about 120 different wax characters. These figures were arranged in scenes that told stories. Some scenes showed moments from Canadian history, like the explorer Jacques Cartier.
Other parts of the museum featured modern life, movie stars, and famous people from all over the world. Imagine seeing wax figures of Elizabeth II, the Queen, or Hollywood stars like Scarlett Johansson and Leonardo DiCaprio!
You could also find figures of brilliant minds like Albert Einstein, music icons like Lady Gaga, and important leaders like Mahatma Gandhi. Canadian actor Donald Sutherland and supermodel Naomi Campbell also had their wax doubles there.
