Mutten (in Romansh: Mut) was a small town, or municipality, in Switzerland. It was located in the Viamala Region, which is part of the canton of Graubünden. On January 1, 2018, Mutten joined with the nearby town of Thusis.

A Look Back: Mutten's History
Mutten was first mentioned in old records in 1363. At that time, it was called unz uff die Mutten. Later, in 1549, it was known as Hans ab Mutten.
Mutten's Geography and Landscape
Before it merged, Mutten covered an area of about 9.9 square kilometers (3.8 square miles). A large part of this land, about 29.5%, was used for farming. Forests covered an even bigger part, about 60.5% of the area.
Only a small portion, 1.2%, had buildings or roads. The rest of the land, about 8.8%, was made up of things like rivers, glaciers, or mountains.
Mutten is special because it has three different levels of settlement. These are located south of the Schin Gorge, which is a deep valley.
- Unter-Mutten (Lower Mutten) is the main village. People live here all year round. It is about 1,394 meters (4,573 feet) above sea level.
- Stafel is the middle village. It is located higher up, at about 1,761 meters (5,778 feet).
- Ober-Mutten (Upper Mutten) is the highest village. It sits at about 1,860 meters (6,102 feet) above sea level.
People and Population
In 2015, Mutten had a population of 72 people. Over the ten years before that, the number of people living there went down by about 6.8%. Most people in Mutten speak German, about 98.8% of the population. A small number of people, 1.3%, speak Romansh.
In 2000, there were more males than females in Mutten. About 57.3% of the population was male, and 42.7% was female.
