Muurame is a town in Finland. It is located about 16 kilometers (10 miles) southwest of Jyväskylä. Muurame is special because it sits between two large lakes. These are Lake Päijänne and Lake Muuratjärvi.
The two lakes are connected by a river called River Muurame. This river flows right through the center of the town. In total, Muurame has 37 lakes. Besides Päijänne and Muuratjärvi, Lake Kuusjärvi is another big one. Muurame became a town in 1921.
The Muurame church is a famous building in the town. It was designed by a well-known architect named Alvar Aalto. This church was his first church design to be finished, back in 1929. It was fully fixed up in 2016 to look just like it did when it was new.

Muurame's Past: A Brief History
Muurame was once part of a larger area called the Jämsä parish. In the past, people from Pälkäne also used to hunt in this area. In 1539, there were only four farms in Muurame. Some of these farms paid taxes to Jämsä, while others paid taxes to Pälkäne.
Later, in 1861, a place called Korpilahti (which included Muurame) separated from Jämsä. Then, Muurame itself became its own separate town in 1921. A nearby area called Säynätsalo also separated from Muurame. This happened for church matters in 1922 and for local government in 1924.
