My Secret Identity was a fun TV show from Canada. It starred Jerry O'Connell and Derek McGrath. The show first aired in Canada on October 9, 1988, and ended on May 25, 1991. It was also shown in the United States. This series even won an Emmy Award in 1989 for being a great show for kids and young people!

What's the Show About?

The show is about a 14-year-old boy named Andrew Clements, played by Jerry O'Connell. One day, while looking for his friend, Dr. Benjamin Jeffcoate (played by Derek McGrath), Andrew trips. He gets hit by a special photon beam. This beam gives him amazing superpowers!

Andrew uses his new powers to help people and solve problems. He even fights crime! But there's a big secret: only Dr. Jeffcoate knows about Andrew's powers. Andrew has to keep them hidden from his mom, sister, and all his other friends. At first, Andrew called himself Ultraman, but he stopped using that name later on.

Andrew's Superpowers

Andrew's powers changed a bit during the show.

Season 1 Powers

In the first season, Andrew could become almost weightless. He could jump really high and do amazing flips! But to fly, he needed to carry special aerosol spray cans. He could go up easily, but he needed the spray to move around in the air or come down.

Season 2 Powers

In the second season, Andrew suddenly gained the ability to fly without the spray cans. It was never explained how this happened! Later in that season, he was hit by the photon beam again. This time, he gained superhuman strength! However, he also lost his ability to be invulnerable (meaning he could get hurt).

Andrew's Weakness

Throughout the whole series, Andrew had one big weakness. He would lose his powers if he was exposed to radiation. This included things like electromagnetic waves or X-rays. For example, in one episode, he lost his powers for a few days after getting an X-ray at the dentist. Later in the show, his powers would come back right after the radiation stopped.

Where Does the Story Take Place?

The show is mainly set in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. However, most of the action happens in a made-up town called Briarwood. Andrew goes to Briarwood High School. His sister, Erin, goes to a different school.

Dr. Jeffcoate, who is supposedly one of the smartest people in the world, lives next door to Andrew. He is a very close friend of Andrew's family. He also likes Andrew's mom, Mrs. Clements, but he never tells her how he feels.
