Máximo Tajes Caceres (born November 23, 1852 – died November 21, 1912) was an important political leader in Uruguay. He was a military man who became the 15th President of Uruguay, serving from 1886 to 1890.

Early Life and Military Career
Máximo Tajes came from a military family. He grew up learning about army life. He was a member of the Colorado Party (Uruguay), which was a very important political group in Uruguay for a long time.
Before becoming president, Tajes served as the Minister of War. He held this important job from 1882 to 1886. During this time, he worked under President Máximo Santos.
In November 1886, President Santos decided to step down from his position. This opened the way for Tajes to become the next leader of the country.

Máximo Tajes became the President of Uruguay in 1886. He led the country for about three and a half years, until 1890.
After his time as president, another member of the Colorado Party (Uruguay), Julio Herrera y Obes, took over the role.
Later Life and Legacy
Máximo Tajes passed away on November 21, 1912, just two days before his 60th birthday.
His former home is now a special place for people to visit. It is located near a town called Cerrillos, close to the Santa Lucia river. This house has been turned into a museum. Visitors can explore it for free and learn about his life.
There is also a road in Carrasco, a neighborhood in Montevideo, that is named after Máximo Tajes. This shows how he is still remembered in Uruguay.
