Monica Cosachov (born September 7, 1946) is a talented musician from Argentina. She plays the harpsichord and piano, and she also writes her own music. Besides performing, she teaches at universities and research centers around the world.

Early Life and Studies

Monica Cosachov was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She started her music journey by studying composition, piano, and harpsichord at the Conservatorio Nacional in Buenos Aires. Later, she continued her studies in Italy at the Yehudi Menuhin International Academy and the Academy Chigiana. During her time studying, she became very interested in chamber music, which is music played by a small group of instruments.

Music Career and Teaching

Monica Cosachov has been involved with the Camping Musical Bariloche music festival. She also helped start the Camerata Bariloche, a famous music group, and performed as a soloist with them. She became the Director of Research and Teaching at the Fundación Bariloche (Bariloche Foundation).

Her work involves looking at music and science together, which led her to teach as a visiting professor at universities and research centers in other countries.

Currently, she leads the Escuela Interdisciplinaria de Música (Interdisciplinary School of Music). This school is a training center for artistic and social projects. For her work there, she won the Alicia Moreau de Justo prize, which honors creative work and support for young artists.

As a member of the Council of the Unesco through the United Nations, Monica Cosachov has taught special classes in Argentina and at universities in other countries like Colombia, Prague, Bavaria, Switzerland, and several Latin American nations. In 2005, she was chosen to be the director of the Fondo Nacional de las Artes (National Endowment for the Arts), which supports arts in Argentina.

Monica Cosachov has performed as a harpsichordist and pianist with many famous musicians, including Alberto Lysy and Jean-Pierre Rampal. Some of her notable students include Mario Raskin and Oscar Milani.

She is very interested in the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. She has led workshops on Bach's Goldberg Variations and his keyboard and chamber music. Critics have praised her complete performance of Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier.

Compositions and Books

Monica Cosachov has written several musical pieces. Some of her works include La Rama Dorada, Concierto de Cámaras, and La Magia de la Navidad. These pieces have been performed in famous theaters around the world, such as the Zurich Opera, The Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, Teatro Reina Sofia, and the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires.

Her works Los Siete Escalones Místicos and Los Tres Estados del Dragón were first performed at the Festival of Sacred Music in Ljubljana, Poland, and Trieste, Italy. In 2002, she released a music CD called Bach De Buenos Aires. More recently, she released her latest production, Mi Corazón es mi casa.

Besides composing, Monica Cosachov also wrote a book titled Musicos, los mensajeros del sonido, which was published in 1988.
