Life and Political Journey
N. Janardhana Reddy was born in a place called Vakadu on February 20, 1935. After finishing his studies, he worked as a teacher in a school in Vakadu for a short time.
Starting in Politics
Reddy began his political career in 1972. He was first elected to the Rajya Sabha, which is another house of the Indian Parliament. In 1978, he became a top leader for the state congress party. Later, he was elected to the Legislative Council.
Serving as a Minister
Throughout his long career, he held many important positions. He served as a state minister in the government of Andhra Pradesh. He was a minister under several Chief Ministers, including Tanguturi Anjaiah, Bhavanam Venkatarami Reddy, and Kotla Vijaya Bhaskara Reddy. He helped set up a technology park called "Sri Rajiv Gandhi Technology Park" in Madhapur.
Becoming Chief Minister
In 1990, Janardhana Reddy became the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. This was a very important role. During his time as Chief Minister, there were some difficult times with public unrest in Hyderabad. Reddy was praised for quickly bringing peace and order back to the area.
He was also the first Chief Minister to ban a militant group called the Naxalite People's War Group. This group used violence, and Reddy took strong action against them.
Important Decisions and Later Years
One of his key decisions was allowing private colleges for professional education. This meant more medical and engineering colleges could open. After his term, Kotla Vijayabhaskara Reddy took over as Chief Minister in 1992.
Years later, in September 2007, the Naxalite group tried to harm him and his family. This happened while he was traveling to his home village. Luckily, Reddy and his wife were safe, though some of his helpers were hurt.
Reddy was elected to the Rajya Sabha again in 2010. He continued to serve there until he passed away. In his last years, he faced health challenges. He died in 2014 after a long illness. He is remembered by his wife, Rajyalaxmi, and their four sons.
