Noah Nickolas Perry, born on August 1, 1950, is an American politician and diplomat. He was the U.S. Ambassador to Jamaica from 2022 to 2025. Before that, he was a member of the New York State Assembly. He represented the 58th district from 1993 to 2022. This district included areas like East Flatbush in Brooklyn, New York.

Early Life and Education
Noah Nickolas Perry was born and grew up in Saint Andrew Parish, Jamaica. He went to Kingston College in Kingston, Jamaica. Later, he moved to the United States.
He studied at Brooklyn College and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. His main subject was political science, which is the study of government and politics. He also returned to Brooklyn College for a Master of Arts degree. This advanced degree was in public policy and administration.
Career Highlights
Before moving to the U.S. in 1971, Perry worked at a place called the Bustamante Industrial Trade Union. In 1972, he volunteered to join the United States Army. He served for two years on active duty. He was honorably discharged in 1978 as a Specialist Five.
Getting Started in Politics
In 1983, Perry began his political journey. He was appointed to Brooklyn Community Board 17. This board helps local communities with important decisions. He later became the chairman of that board.
The next year, he ran for District Leader in the 42nd Assembly District. He also served on the Executive Board of the 67th Police Precinct. He was a director for the Flatbush East Community Development Corporation.
Serving in the New York State Assembly
In 1992, a new assembly district was created in Brooklyn. This was the 58th district, located in East Flatbush. Perry won the election for this new seat in November 1992.
He served in the New York State Assembly for many years. Since 2001, he has been the vice-chair of the Assembly Majority Conference. He also held the role of majority whip. He worked on several important committees. These included Ways & Means, Rules, Codes, Labor, Transportation, and Banks.
In 2006, Perry considered running for the U.S. Congress. He wanted to represent New York's 11th congressional district. However, he later decided not to run. He supported Yvette Clarke instead. Perry ran for State Assembly without opponents in 2008, 2010, and 2012.
Becoming a U.S. Ambassador
In November 2021, Perry was chosen to be the United States Ambassador to Jamaica. An ambassador is a top diplomat who represents their country in another nation. Hearings for his nomination were held in February 2022. The Senate's Foreign Relations Committee approved his nomination.
The full Senate confirmed him on March 10, 2022. He officially started his role on May 13, 2022. He presented his credentials to Governor-General of Jamaica Sir Patrick Allen.
Personal Life
Noah Perry and his wife, Joyce, live in the East Flatbush area of Brooklyn. His granddaughter is Justine Skye. She is a recording artist with Roc Nation.
