Nadir Larbaoui (born September 26, 1949) is an important Algerian politician, lawyer, and diplomat. He served as the Prime Minister of Algeria from November 2023 until August 2025. Before becoming Prime Minister, he held several key roles, including being an ambassador and a top advisor to the President.
Nadir Larbaoui's Early Life
Nadir Larbaoui was born on September 26, 1949, in a city called Tébessa, in Algeria. When he was young, he was a talented athlete. He played handball for the Algerian national team! He even helped his team win the Algerian Men's Handball Cup three times: in 1971–1972, 1972–1973, and 1975–1976. He also represented Algeria in big international competitions, like the World Handball Championship in 1974 and the African Handball Championship in 1976.
A Career in Diplomacy and Politics
After his successful sports career, Nadir Larbaoui decided to study law. He attended the University of Algiers and earned degrees in both public and private international law. This made him a qualified lawyer.
He then began working for Algeria's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This is the government department that handles relationships with other countries. In this role, he managed legal matters, international economic connections, and affairs related to the Arab Maghreb region.
Later, he became a diplomat, which means he represented Algeria in other countries and at international organizations. He served as an ambassador to important places like the United Nations, Pakistan, Egypt, and the Arab League.
In March 2023, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune chose Mr. Larbaoui to be his chief of staff. This is a very important job, helping the President with his daily duties and decisions.
On November 11, 2023, President Tebboune appointed Nadir Larbaoui as the new Prime Minister of Algeria. The Prime Minister is the head of the government, responsible for leading the country's administration. He took over from Aymen Benabderrahmane. Mr. Larbaoui served in this high position until August 28, 2025, when President Tebboune appointed Sifi Ghrieb to take his place.
