Team History and Beginnings
How the Club Started
The Naft Masjed Soleyman team began in 1965. It was first called F.C. Corona Masjed-Soleyman. The team was made up of engineers from different countries. These engineers worked for the National Iranian Oil Company.
The team won its first big prize in 1973. They won the Khuzestan Provincial Cup. Before the Iranian Revolution, another team called Taj Masjed Soleyman was very popular. After the revolution, Taj was no longer a team. Then, Naft became the most popular football team in Masjed Soleyman.
Climbing the Leagues
Naft Masjed Soleyman moved up to the Azadegan League in 2010. They had played one season in the 2nd Division before that. In the 2013–14 season, Naft Masjed Soleyman did very well. They finished first in their league. This success meant they were promoted to the Persian Gulf Pro League.
This was a big moment for the city of Masjed Soleyman. Naft Masjed Soleyman became the first team from their city to play in Iran's top football league.
Playing in the Top League
Before the 2014–15 season, their home stadium was improved. The National Iranian Oil Company made sure it met the standards for the 2014–15 Persian Gulf Pro League. In their first game in the top league, Naft tied 0–0 with Saipa.
However, at the end of that season, Naft finished last. This meant they were moved back down to the Azadegan League. But they didn't give up! Naft Masjed Soleyman worked hard and returned to the Persian Gulf Pro League in April 2018. They won the Azadegan League championship that season. They were relegated again in the 2022-23 season.
