Seeking the Presidency
In August 2002, Mr. Angula received many votes (395) when he was elected to the Central Committee of SWAPO. He tied with Jerry Ekandjo. Hifikepunye Pohamba received 213 votes, and Hidipo Hamutenya received 166 votes. Because he was third, he did not go to the second round. Most of the people who supported Mr. Angula then supported Mr. Pohamba in the second round. Mr. Pohamba won that election.
