History of Nailsworth

Nailsworth has a interesting history, especially regarding its early communication services. It was home to the very first post office for the nearby area of Prospect. This important post office operated from 1861 until about 1872.

The post office was located on First Avenue, which was known as First Street between 1860 and 1901. To help people find the post office easily, two very tall palm trees were planted right in front of the building. These trees acted like a natural signpost, making the post office visible from a distance.
