Collinswood is a small area, called a suburb, located in Adelaide, Australia. It sits right on the edge of two different local government areas: the City of Prospect and the City of Port Adelaide Enfield.

A very important building in Collinswood is the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) Studios. This is where many TV and radio shows for Australia are made. You can find it at the corner of North East Road and Galway Avenue.

Collinswood also has a bit of history with its post office. It first opened around 1927 under the name Hampstead Post Office. Later, in 1964, its name was changed to Collinswood.

What is the History of Collinswood?

How Collinswood Began

The story of Collinswood began way back in 1838. A man named George Fife Angas chose a special piece of land here. He was one of the first people to invest in the new colony of South Australia. Because he invested early, he got to pick a "country section" of land before others.

This chosen land, called section 474, is almost exactly where Collinswood is today. In the early days, this triangle-shaped area was actually split into two parts. The southern part was known as the suburb of Rosebery, while the northern part became Collinswood.
