History of Manningham
The land that is now Manningham was once a large estate. It was called 'Manningham Lodge'. This estate was used for training horses a long time ago.
In 1926, the owner of 'Manningham Lodge' was a doctor named Dr. A.H. Bennett. He decided to give a part of his land to the community. He wanted it to be a playground for everyone to enjoy. This area is still a playground today. It is known as Bennett Memorial Reserve and you can find it on North East Road.
Later, in 1934, the rest of the estate was divided into smaller blocks of land. These blocks were sold off to build homes. This is when the area officially became known as 'Manningham'.
