Najm ud-din Ali Khan, also known as Najm-ud-Daulah (or Nazam-ud-Daulah), was an important ruler in India. He was the Nawab of Bengal and Bihar from 1765 to 1766. He was the second son of Mir Jafar, who was also a Nawab.
Najm-ud-Daulah became the Nawab after his father, Mir Jafar, passed away. He was only about 15 years old when he took the throne on February 5, 1765.
In 1765, after the Battle of Buxar, the British gained more power. They formally received the right to collect taxes, called Dewani, from Bengal and Bihar. Nawab Najm-ud-Daulah officially gave this right to the British on September 30, 1765.
Sadly, Najmuddin died soon after, on May 8, 1766. He was only 19 years old. It seems he caught a fever at a party held for Robert Clive at the Murshidabad fort. He was buried at Jafarganj Cemetery. His younger brother, Najabat Ali Khan, became the next Nawab.
