Narara is a suburb located just north of Gosford. It is part of the Central Coast region in New South Wales, Australia. This area is managed by the Central Coast Council.
Narara is mainly a place where people live. It has its own Narara railway station on the Central Coast & Newcastle Line. You can also find many parks, sports fields, and a concrete skatepark here. The suburb is home to Narara Valley High School and St Philips Christian College Gosford. This private school teaches students from kindergarten all the way to year twelve.
Narara is also known for the Narara Ecovillage. This special community aims to create a friendly and sustainable village. It blends ideas about caring for the environment and people's well-being. Narara also hosts the yearly Ecoburbia festival. This event was even named the Best Community Event in 2015 by Gosford City Council.
The name 'Narara' comes from the local Aboriginal people. It means 'black snake'. You can see the black snake on the emblem of Narara Valley High School. It is also on the scarf worn by the 1st Narara Scout Group.
Narara has a famous connection to music. The Narara Music Festival was held nearby in Somersby in 1983 and 1984. An Australian rock band called The Angels even recorded a live album there. It was called "Live at Narara."
Long ago, Narara had many orchards and small farms. Water from small dams in Narara Creek Road was used to supply steam trains. This water traveled through wooden pipes to the railway station. The dams were also a popular spot for swimming.
Narara's Past
Narara is located on the traditional lands of the Darkinjung people. They are the original Aboriginal inhabitants of this area. The name 'Narara' means 'black snake' in their language.
The Narara railway station first opened on August 15, 1887. Two years later, in 1889, the Main North railway line began running through Narara. This happened when the Hawkesbury River Railway Bridge was completed.

Busways operates three bus routes that travel through Narara. These buses help people get to different places.
- 33: This route goes from Somersby to Gosford. It passes through Kariong and West Gosford.
- 36: This route connects Tuggerah to Gosford. It travels via Niagara Park and Ourimbah.
- 37: This route also goes from Tuggerah to Gosford. It passes through Kangy Angy and Lisarow.
