The name Narraweena comes from an Aboriginal language. It means "a quiet place in the hills."

The suburb of Narraweena started to grow a lot after World War II. Land was divided into smaller blocks for homes. The Narraweena Post Office first opened its doors on 1 April 1953.

Annual Santo Salvatore Festival

Since the 1980s, people from Pazzano, Italy, have held a special yearly festival. It is called the Santo Salvatore's feast.
