Brookvale is a busy suburb located in northern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. It is about 16 kilometers north-east of the main city center of Sydney. Brookvale is part of the beautiful Northern Beaches region. It is managed by the Northern Beaches Council.

History of Brookvale

The first big step for Brookvale happened in 1836. A large piece of land, about 64 hectares, was given to William Frederick Parker. More land was later sold to other families.

In 1883, a man named Sydney Alexander Malcolm built a house. It became known as 'Brookvale House'. This house was later sold in 1961. This sale led to the building of Westfield Warringah Mall. This mall is now the biggest shopping center in the area.

Brookvale used to have two post offices. The first one opened in 1888. It closed in 2013. A second post office, called Warringah Mall Post Office, opened in 1963.

After World War II, many immigrants bought land in Brookvale. A lot of these new residents came from Italy. Families like the Curulli, Caputo, and Bombardieri families own much of the land here. Brookvale changed from being mostly farmland to a place with factories and warehouses. More recently, many office buildings have been built.

Because many people from a small Italian village called Pazzano moved here, they sometimes call Brookvale "Pazzaniedu". This means Little Pazzano in their local language. Also, a very important internet cable, the Southern Cross Cable, has a special connection point here. It was built in 1999.

People of Brookvale

The 2016 census counted 3,161 people living in Brookvale. Most people, about 53.7%, were born in Australia. Other common birthplaces included England (5.5%), China (4.8%), and New Zealand (3.5%).

Most people in Brookvale, about 65.0%, speak only English at home. Other languages spoken include Mandarin (4.1%) and Italian (3.4%). When it comes to religion, many people said they had No Religion (33.5%). Others were Catholic (26.4%) or Anglican (10.4%).

Shopping and Businesses

Brookvale is a growing area for businesses. It is a major industrial hub. This means many factories, warehouses, and offices are located here.

Westfield Warringah Mall is a very large shopping center in the southern part of Brookvale. It has many shops, restaurants, and entertainment options.

You can find many car dealerships and car repair shops in Brookvale. There are also many businesses that do printing and make signs. The main bus depot for the Keolis Downer Northern Beaches bus company is also in Brookvale. It is located on Pittwater Road.

Sports and Fun

Brookvale Oval is a famous sports ground. It is the home field for the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles rugby league team. Their fans often call it "Fortress Brookvale". The stadium can hold up to 23,000 people. It has special stands for fans and bright lights for night games.

In 2014, another rugby team, the North Harbour Rays, also used Brookvale Oval as their home ground.

The 1st Brookvale Scout group started in 1947. They still meet at their scout hall. This group later joined with 1st North Curl Curl. Now they are known as Brookvale Curl Curl Scout Group.

Schools and Learning

Brookvale has two schools for students. They are Brookvale Public School and St Augustine's College.

Brookvale also has a TAFE NSW college. TAFE colleges offer practical courses and training for different jobs. This campus is on Old Pittwater Road.
